Almost every woman I have ever met has a secret belief that she is just on the edge of madness, that there is some deep, crazy part within her, that she must be on guard constantly against ‘losing control’ — of her temper, of her appetite, of her sexuality, of her feelings, of her ambition, of her secret fantasies, of her mind.
Elana Dykewomon, Notes for a Magazine
Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and they will come forth, later, in uglier ways.
I was wondering for a while if I should post these quotes because they are a little darker than some of the things I post here. But I think it’s important to understand that expression is not a once in a while thing, but a lifestyle. We need to be more honest about our emotions, our feelings and the thoughts running through our heads. We need to be honest about getting our needs met in healthy, self-loving ways. Ignoring the feelings and needs inside of you won’t make them go away. It will simply just starve them and make them more desperate for attention. Acknowledge them. Respect them. Honor them.
