It’s okay to be sad about things that happened in the past.
Sometimes grieving and mourning take a long time. We don’t always have the ability or privilege to grieve at the time of our trauma.
Instead of asking, “Why am I still crying about this?” say, “It’s safe for me to let these feelings exist.”
Try to ground yourself in the present before you tend to your feelings. Ideas: have a cup of tea, be with a friend or animal friend, be near nature, be somewhere cozy.
