“When they don’t love you the way you want to, you mourn that for however long you need to. But then you get back up and you remind yourself: You are not a reflection of the people who can’t love you. You will love again. You will be loved again.”
I know how hard it can be to differentiate yourself from people who once hurt you in the past. Worthless, unlovable and not good enough were words I struggled not to swallow. I realized that we are not defined by the people who could not love us, but we are defined by the people who have and stayed. And it’s that love which is worth fighting for and believing in, even when you lose hope that you will ever love again.
